Painted in South India (probably Thanjavur or perhaps Tiruchchirapalli)
Kali is depicted on a plinth and seated against a bolster, all set within an architectural frame. She is depicted with red skin and with a flaming crown from the top of which rears a 5-headed cobra. She has four arms and carries - hourglass drum (top right), sword (bottom right), trident (top left) and skull-cup (bottom left).
On laid European paper watermarked with the date, '1816'.
